FEDERAL MINISTRY OF TOURISM, CULTURE AND NATIONAL ORIENTATION
SERVICE CHARTER
INTRODUCTION
The Ministry was carved out of Federal Ministry of Information and Culture and Federal Ministry of Commerce and Tourism in 1999 with the responsibility overseeing the overall promotion of the nation’s immense rich cultural heritage. Thus, the Ministry has a responsibility to supervise in the identification, development and marketing of the nation’s diverse cultural and tourism potential through its Parastatals in order to complement foreign exchange earnings from oil sector.
Our main instrument remains focused on: -
- Policy formulation
- Implementation through the Ministry’s Agencies/Parastatals
- Documentation/Publication and Packaging of Culture and Tourism events
- Negotiating and signing of Bilateral and Multilateral Culture and Tourism agreements.
2. MISSION STATEMENT: -
To promote the nation’s rich tourism potentials and cultural heritage through identification development and marketing of the diverse cultural and tourism opportunities by implementing policies aimed at diversifying the economy and placing culture and tourism on the path of sustainable growth and development, as well as re-orienting the populace of national development.
3. MISSION STATEMENT: -
To re-position Tourism and Culture as a key sector for economic growth and development, and to re-orient the citizenry to build an orderly responsible and disciplined society where care values of hard-work, honesty, patriotism, democratic principles and ideals are upheld.
4. SERVICES RENDERED
- To identify, assess and document tourism sites and attractions for development/investment and promotion purposes.
- Maintaining a permanent exhibition of Traditional African Architectural Technology and Africa and the Origins of Man.
- Educating the public on the inevitability of culture as a tool for development, reconciliation and propagation of peace.
- To build specifically the following kinds of Galleries.
- Portrait Galleries
- Galleries of Modern Art
- The National Hall of Fame
- Gallery of Contemporary Islamic Art
- Gallery of Contemporary Art
- National Photographic Gallery
- National Gallery of Architecture and Designs
- Special Workshop/Studies Project
- Acquiring audio visual materials uh as films, photograph, video and audio cassettes for pupils, students, scholars, artists, and researchers.
- To conduct in-depth research and documentation in Nigerian Culture and History.
- Encourage the discovery and development of talents in the arts.
- Effective management of Tourism Statistics Courses for planners, research officers.
- Administration of National Museum antiquities and monuments

6. PERFORMANCE TARGET/CUSTOMER EXPECTATION
The Ministry is structured in a way to assist the sector in the drive towards a contribution to the Gross Domestic Product which is put at 2 – 3% by the year 2010.
7. COMPLAINTS METHOD/PROCEDURES
Customers are expected to use the following methods to seek redress when dissatisfied with services rendered: -

- Write down your complaints on sheet of paper provided by the complaint Box at the SERVICOM office, Abuja.
8. LIMITATIONS
- Insecurity of live, properties, animals, antiquities and forests
- Decay in infrastructural facilities like roads, electricity, water and species of animals.
- Inadequate funding

Alhaji Munzali Dantata is a lawyer by training, with a Master’s Degree (LL.M.) in International Finance Law. He began his career in law practice in 1981 until 1987 when he incorporated a travel agency and thus began his journey in the tourism industry.
