Role of Travel and Tourism Studies Department
In keeping with its mandate, the Management of NIHOTOUR in 1994 created the Travel and Tourism Studies Department as one of the two technical departments of the Institute. The other is the Hospitality Department
The activities of Travel and Tourism Studies Department centres around:

Offering training programmes that meet the conceptual knowledge and technical skills requirements of the sector, hence the PGD, Diploma and Certificate programmes;
Providing short and long term professional, technical and managerial training programmes for all levels of personnel in (a),(b) and (d) above, thus such programmes as – PGD Tourism Management, Diploma in Tourism and Recreation, Diploma in Tourism and Museum Studies, Diploma in Transport and Tourism, IATA/UFTAA Foundation Diploma in International Travel and Tourism, Professional Certificate in Tourism Management and Certificate in Travel Operations and Entrepreneurship among others;
Coordinating the academic activities of Bagauda-Kano, Bauchi, Osogbo and Lagos campuses of the Institute as contained in the organogram of NIHOTOUR;
Cooperating with such bodies and institutions as International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Universal Federation of Travel Agencies Association (UFTAA), based in Canada, Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology, Zaria, Bayero University, Kano, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Nasarawa State University, Keffi. Others are in progress;
Conducting research and publication in Tourism such as Journal of Research in Tourism and Monographs in process;
Providing consultancy services such as those for Delta, Osun and Lagos States;
Providing specialised training programmes such as that organised for Tourism Journalists and Writers.
